Nurse Student Loan Forgiveness

Fortunately, student loans forgiveness for nurses are still very much available in almost all areas of the United States. These are still available because of numerous financial programs that are being run through State and Federal organizations. Federal loan repayment programs are available, as well as state loan forgiveness programs. These are variable offerings. Some of the criteria that are checked during loan evaluation are their educational level, resident address, and their position. These criteria are used to offer certain amounts per nurse. Now, no matter what type of debt forgiveness, at least you know that they are accessible and available for any nurse.
State-funded loans These state-funded loans aren’t available to all states. These are specific offerings to nurses that reside within a state, and here is a quick list of the states that offer student loan forgiveness for nurses.

Florida

The Florida Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program (NSLFP) gives a fairly direct offering. It will give you up to $4000 per year, with a maximum of four years. As long as you reside in Florida and you are a licensed RN, ARNP, or LPN, you may be able to avail of this program.

New York

The Nursing Faculty Loan Forgiveness Incentive Program is offered to nurses that are currently in New York. This is offered to New York residents who have taught nursing and are registered nurses with graduate degrees. It was created with the need to increase the nursing faculty in New York and gives up to $40000 as a maximum lifetime payment.

California

If you are searching for means to improve your nursing career, join California’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Loan Repayment Program. It offers you $8000 at first and can even give you up to $11,000, in addition, depending on secondary qualification standards. If you want to try out managerial positions and the like, this is a great program for you.

Illinois

Similar to New York, Illinois offers the Nurse Educator Loan Repayment Program for those who are nurse educators. Teaching nurses may qualify you for up to $20000 given in four years.
Federal loans
As mentioned above, loan forgiveness can be given by two distinct institutions, so here is a quick rundown of the available federal nursing forgiveness benefits. These three major programs are all available, so read up on this introduction and look for more information on their websites.
Nurses and Medical Technicians: Perkins Loan Cancellation
The Perkins Loan is more commonly known as the Teacher Loan Cancellation Program. Because of this, few people know that it actually also applies to nurses and medical technicians. Perkins loans can allow you to have your full loan be discharged if you work as a nurse for five years. For every year of service that you give to your field, a portion of your loan is forgiven. The only problem about this is that you should already have a current Perkins loan for you to be able to take advantage of it. However, to those who do have the Perkins loan and are eligible for the forgiveness program, this is definitely a good program to utilize.
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program
This program is available for public service workers who work full-time. These public service workers are those who are working in fields such as education and health care. At the moment, there is no limit as to how much debt can be forgiven as long as you are able to pay your Direct Loans for 120 months. The balance is then forgiven. A big issue for the PSLF Program is its current state of stability. It has been undertaking large changes in its terms, and it is not yet sure what the final decisions will be.
The NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program
This program was previously known as the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program but is now the NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program, abbreviated as the NHSC. This program was made with the purpose of helping Registered Nurses in underserved hospitals and clinics with regards to their educational finances. This is because the Federal Government finds it necessary to send nurses to certain communities. To do so, they offered an incentive that might entice registered nurses to work in poor areas. For two years of service, 60% of your loan will be paid and additional years of service will allow them to pay 25% of your balance. However, this program is very competitive and is only available for application from January to March.
